Centro Community Partners: Be Yourself
#SFSBW2017 asked some of our sponsors to share insights, best practices, and examples of how they help small business owners flourish. Today we hear from Centro Community Partners.
Centro Community Partner’s mission is to build thriving communities by providing underserved, low-income entrepreneurs with entrepreneurship education, one-on-one business advising, mentorship, and access to capital.
We believe that the development of healthy small businesses, particularly those owned and run by low-income and underserved individuals, is one of the most effective sources of economic and social benefits.
Our prosperity model begins with the idea that all individuals have the capacity to break the cycle of poverty and build thriving communities through entrepreneurship, as long as they have access to educational and financial products that are tailored to their needs, and are culturally appropriate.
We support small business entrepreneurs through:
1. Centro Business Planning App: the first and only mobile app that helps you write a business plan and apply for up to $10K through Kiva.org without any previous business background or experience. The app is available in English and Spanish.
2. Basic Entrepreneurship Program: for individuals, primarily on the idea stage of their business and who have not been exposed yet to any business education.
3. Advanced Entrepreneurship Program: a 14-week training program created for those who have completed Centro’s basic entrepreneurship program or similar training, and already have a portfolio of products or services.
We see small businesses delving more into social responsibility, and social entrepreneurship. This elevates the sense of community within the marketplace and promotes further collaboration among small business owners and their patrons. It is beautiful to see it operating and making a real difference in the lives of so many around us and beyond.
Despite their talent and genius, more often than not, local small business entrepreneurs lack access to the proper business training and commercial credit, and face enormous social challenges in the labor market.
See how Centro is helping San Francisco businesses thrive with our theory of change.
Start and be yourself. With those two combined, together we can beat the odds and make your passion or skills, your way of life.
